Evil Emperor Zurg, also known as Emperor Zurg, or simply as Zurg, is a prominent evil intergalactic alien warlord conqueror and the sworn enemy of the Galactic Alliance. He rules over the largely automated Planet Z and has an army of robotic Hornets and at least two enslaved species (Grubs and Brain Pods) working for him. His main opponent is Buzz Lightyear, a Human space ranger of Star Command.
Biology[]
Zurg is a thin, tall built broad-chested humanoid of an unknown species dressed in Purple armor and robes. His head is invariably encased in a massive helmet crested with grey horns, through which a pair of piercing red eyes and a grille of yellow teeth that light up when he's talking. His torso is entirely covered in gray and purple chassis, probably made of steel and his hands and arms are covered in by steel gauntlets capped with sharp fingers. His feet are encased in long royal purple robes, and he wears a black cloak lined with red sides. He also has a black rubber waist similar to buzz lightyear.
In Disney Pixar's Lightyear (2022) Zurg appears to be bipedal rather than being legless in the original toy story series. However, he has two legs and Shoe-like feet that can crush any entity, an Elongated torso, and both hands that are converted into his Ion Blaster and extendable hands that can launch out of his arms. His head and body resemble his Disney Mirrorverse Version of Zurg. His chest can also open and close which it behaves like a door. Zurg is revealed to be an older version of Buzz Lightyear which he has grey hair, A slightly hunched back, Black Armor and wrinkled skin, similar to Crosshair from Star Wars: The Bad Batch.
In Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, Zurg's Face can only change expressions. Unlike Zurg from the original toy story, Zurg can Smile and make faces at the same time, which he doesn't lip-sync.
Personality[]
Although he is a powerful and utterly evil character, Zurg is also a comical, flamboyant figure who often breaks the seriousness of otherwise purely evil statements. He enjoys mocking his opponents by videotaping awkward moments of them. It is still a mystery to which species the evil emperor belongs. He appears to be some sort of cyborg or fully artificial lifeform, though this has never been confirmed (or denied). On more than one occasion Zurg did mention being Buzz Lightyear's father (which would make him Human), but these statements were later denied by Zurg himself, who explained that he was simply attempting to temporarily astonish Buzz.
Notes[]
- Zurg was based on Darth Vader, which he was the son of Buzz Lightyear as revealed in Toy Story 2 (1999).
- He originally debuted in Walt Disney World's Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin attraction, which opened on November 3, 1998 right before Toy Story 2 was released a year prior.
- Zurg was first mentioned in Toy Story (1995) multiple times at once.
