"Cloud, Swarm, Alien entity. We're not exactly sure what we are calling them"
―Eli describing the aliens

Dust Bugs are microscopic insects native to a Desert Planet located in an unnamed galaxy. They were the first species encountered by the Destiny expedition.

Behavior[]

Normally docile and helpful, the aliens float around absorbing any water source they come across. They are also curious; investigating other lifeforms they come across and will approach if they feel safe.

They are capable of developing rapports with other lifeforms once their trust has been earned. The aliens revived Matthew Scott on their homeworld after he gave them water. The same swarm even recognized Scott on their second encounter on the Ice planet.

They become extremely violent when provoked; swarming around a target and injuring it with multiple lacerations.

Appearance[]

Individually too small to be seen, they resemble swirling dust devils when in collective groups. They can also reshape to imitate other objects such as faces of those they are familiar with.

Abilities[]

  • Water Absorption: Swarms are capable of absorbing water to feed and replicate.
  • Telepathy: Though not clearly stated the species appears to possess telepathic abilities. Matthew Scott experienced visions during his encounter with the aliens which helped find the lime Destiny needed.

History[]

Appearing as the soul inhabitants of the Desert planet. The aliens are encountered when the Destiny crew gates to the planet to find lime needed to restore Destiny 's CO2 scrubbers.

Unseen by the team the aliens at first watch the team from a nearby ridge with only Matthew Scott noticing their presence but dismissing it has a trick of the light and heat. Later when Scott heads off alone to look for the lime he has a direct encounter with the creatures. Testing their sapience and appetite he pores some of his water into the sand and watches as they absorb it. The creatures later saved his life by bringing him back to consciousness when he collapsed under the desert sun.
