Duocons are a subspecies of multi-component Cybertronians from the planet Cybertron.

Biology[]

While also being a subgroup of Decepticons, Duocons consider themselves a species unto themselves.

Anatomy[]

Duocons share a similar biology to other Cybertronians, except they transform from individual robots into two separate vehicles and vice versa. According to Vector Prime, they also possess mitotic sparks.[1]

Powers and abilities[]

Duocons share many of the same abilities as other Cybertronians, namely Multi-Component Transformers.

History[]

The Duocons were created by Decepticon scientist Shockwave when he experimented to create a Transformer with more than one alternate mode. While he eventually succeeded with the Triple Changers, an early step in the process resulted in the Duocons. They were considered a failure due to their consciousness being split between two vehicles.

Notes[]

  • It is often speculated that Battletrap and Flywheels' names were mistakenly swapped during production, as the rollers of tank treads are not generally thought of as wheels.
  • The Power of the Primes incarnation of Dreadwing and The Last Knight Leader Class Dragonstorm have both dubbed by Hasbro to be Duocons, most likely due to them being two-bot combiners.[2][3]
    • Likewise, Overlord has been identified as a Duocon by both Transformers Animated: The Complete AllSpark Almanac and the Transformers Timelines Facebook page.
    • Even though Battletrap is portrayed as being the combined form of Battleslash and Roadtrap in the Power of the Primes toyline and 2019 IDW continuity, the two smaller Decepticons have been identified as Duocons.
  • In the Dreamwave Generation 1 continuity, the Duocons are portrayed as being prototypes of Shockwave's experiments of creating Triple Changers. The bio card included with his Transformers Timelines Voyager Class toy state that Battletrap was later upgraded into a Triple Changer to save his life after he was diagnosed with Machanimus Disjunctus.
  • In the 2005 IDW continuity, Flywheels and Battletrap function as Triple Changers due to the former changing between modes without splitting, complete with kibble from one vehicle mode on the other.
