The Dolphantes are a species of what remains of the Ghomos.
Biology[]
The Dolphantes were originally an aquatic species that lived in the oceans of Abraxar. However they were granted the ability to ascend into energy beings after a time displaced Lanfeust touched one of their own. The ability allowed them to enter the body of one of their own, M'otha and escape their dying world. Over time the Dolphantes learned how to possess the bodies of deceased beings.
History[]
The Ghomos after parting from M'otha, who journeyed to Troy, witnessed the genocide of Pathacelces. Though the Pathacelces were responsible for the draining of their home world of Abraxar they could not ignore the atrocity. They managed to save one of the Pathacelces, a young infant named Dheluu. Whisking him away the Ghomos used their newfound abilities to psychically protect Dheluu and take him away from the massacre. The Ghomos renamed themselves the Dolphantes. Though they mostly learned to live in peace, their Pathacelce charge understood that unlike his adopted parents he would eventually die. Unwilling to allow his race to die out, and swearing revenge over the galaxy for his kind's genocide Dheluu set out to conquer the galaxy.
Out guilt for their charge's acts, the Dolphantes worked to stop Dheluu's plans. To prevent him from changing the past they used their influence to insure time travel technology was not just illegal but also destroyed. The Dolphantes would become a powerful race know throughout known space as the masters of the stargate technology, maintaining control over the galactic network via their servants the Garoul.
Dheluu however having infiltrated the upper echelons of the galactic society and as a member of the Thirteen Merchant Princes of Merrion, spread lies of the Dolphantes cajoling the other Princes to sponsor a project in which they would create a psychic weapon to defeat the Dolphantes. The project would ironically be based on the planet Troy as a sort of penal colony. Where the inhabitants would be used to encourage a culture that would produce psychic abilities or magic. The main aim of the project eas to cultivate a being that would be used as a weapon against the Dolphantes. Dheluu's project though instead would benefit the Dolphantes. The Dolphantes knowing that their kind's ascension to energy beings was only made possibly by Lanfeust who would be born on Troy, the Dolphantes journeyed to the planet to ensure Lanfeust's birth by modifying his grandmother's DNA to contain Ghomo essence making her lineage more receptive to magic. This would ensure Lanfeust's birth and complete the paradoxical loop of the human, ensuring he would travel to the past and meet M'otha, saving the Dolphantes from the drawing of their seas.
Culture[]
The Dolphantes are hailed as one of the oldest race that control the portal network that makes interstellar travel possible making them an economic power not to be trifled with. However despite this power the Dolphantes are a peaceful species that refuse to interfere with living beings. Acting discrete and away from public attention they maintain a policy of non-interference and reflecting their preference to only taking possession of deceased bodies to interact with the physical world.
