Dinocassettes are a subspecies of semi-sapient dinosaurian Mini-Cassettes from the planet Cybertron.

Biology[]

Anatomy[]

Dinocassettes share a similar to other Cybertronian Mini-Cassettes, except their robot modes resemble various types of dinosaurs. Notable body-types include Iguanodons such as Dile/Dairu and Uriad and Apatosaurus-like Brontobots such as Zaur/Zauru and Uruaz.

Dinocassette body-types exclusive to Autobots include Graphy, who is a Pteranodon; and Noise, who is an Allosaurus. Dinocassette body-types exclusive to the Decepticons include Overkil, who is a Ceratosaur; and Slugfest, who is a Stegosaurus.

Powers and abilities[]

Dinocassettes share many of the same abilities as other Mini-Cassettes, namely fitting into the chest compartments of Cybertronians such as Soundwave and Blaster.

Most Dinosaurians possess combination abilities, being able to double-up with a partner to form a humanoid robot.

Culture and society[]

In the wild, Dinocassettes are functionally similar to non-sapient dinosaurs until they are captured and domesticated by other Cybertronians. They are commonly affiliated with either the Autobots or the Decepticons upon domestication.

Borontobots are known to be gentle beasts and love to play around water.

Notes[]

  • In Japan, the Dinocassettes are referred to as "W [Double] Cassettebots". The letter "W" is often used in Japanese media in place of the word "double", as the letter "W" (double-u) is pronounced the same as "double" in Japanese (daburu), making them interchangeable with one another.
    • This same word play scheme went on to be used for the Micromaster Combiners during Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers: Return of Convoy, which were denoted the "W Teams" (Double Teams).
  • The name "Brontobot" was one of several preliminary names for the Generation 1 Dinobot Sludge and derives from the previously obsolete (but now reinstated) dinosaur name Brontosaurus.
  • It is unknown if the pairings of Grand Slam/Raindance and Beastbox/Squawktalk are considered W Cassettebots (or W Cassettetrons, in the case of the latter pair). Those pairings were not sold at normal retail in Japan, only offered as mail-aways.
  • The Hasbro Pulse listing for Vintage G1 Graphy and Noise refers to them as the "Dinocassettes",[1] marking the first official recognition of a long-time English-speaking fandom nickname for the group.
    • It is also likely that other dinosaurian Mini-Cassettes such as Overkill and Slugfest are considered to be Dinocassettes, despite lacking combination abilities.
  • The Shattered Glass incarnations of Overkill and Slugfest are portrayed as "Dinocon Mini-Cassettes", arguably meaning that Dinocassettes can quality as a subspecies as Dinobots.
