The Desarit are a species native to the Known Worlds in Milky Way Galaxy.

Biology[]

An insectoid race with a hive mind that linked all of its members in unity.

History[]

Two thousand cycles ago the Desarit were vulnerable to attack by the aggressive Ka-jar who attacked the Desarit colonies without mercy. Due to having a hive mind an never experiencing violence among their own people, the Desarit were left without any martial skills to defend themselves. The Desarri went in search of a race who could help them, leading them to the discovery of the Sebaceans.

Through negotiations, the Desarit struck a deal with the Sebaceans; they would supply the young species with advanced technology in exchange for protection. Once the threat of the Ka-jar was dealt with the Sebaceans would be allowed to keep the technology they gained but the Desarit would act as advisors to provide oversight so that the Sebaceans would no abuse their new technological prowess.

Using the technology given to them by the Desarit, the Sebaceans drove the Ka-jar all the way back to their homeworld. The conflict ended with the surrender of the Ka-jar with the Sebaceans planting a garrison on the Ka-jar homeworld to ensure they would never pose a threat. The victory of the Sebaceans was said to mark the birth of culture that would rise as the Peacekeepers.

Since then the Sebaceans began launching campaigns to the wider galaxy, hiring themselves out as mercenaries and freelance law enforcement. Under the supervision of the Desarit the Peacekeepers followed strict rules of conduct of defending victimized races or assisting lawful governments. The Peacekeepers avoided becoming involved with the internal affairs of their clients and refused to dictate political policy, and only were concerned to protect peace and order.

However the morals of the Peacekeepers changed during the siege of Lariq 3. What was initially suppose to be a contract to protect colony from its expansionist neighbor evolved into a cycle-long siege with the right wing elements of the colony attacking the Peacekeepers. The Peacekeepers forces having come to care about the people of Lariq 3 refused it to fall into anarchy. The Peacekeepers restored order to the colony by re-establishing the old government and purging all rebellious elements.

The actions of the Peacekeeper force on Lariq 3 were brought to face judgement by Peacekeeper Command as the solders had flagrantly broke all directives in staying neutral. However the commander delivered a powerful defense of her actions, she and her people were cleared of all charges. In doing so it left precedent that allowed for changes into Peacekeeper directives. Over the next two centuries the scope of the Peacekeepers changed from defensive and apolitical to active involvement with internal government affairs and taking control when others failed.

The shift in policy disturbed the Desarit as they realized where it would lead the Peacekeepers. At this point the Peacekeepers had created their own infrastructure and no longer needed the Desarit knowledge. When the Desarit threatened to break away from their alliance, the Peacekeepers were not dismayed when their one-time allies left.

The Desarit would try to actively oppose the Peacekeepers in an effort to contain the evil they created, but the Desarit were no match for the Peacekeepers, having not learned much of war. The conflict with the Desarit was short-lived and saw to the scattering of the species into a race of galactic nomads.
