The Cucuy or El Cucuy are an extradimensional species of creatures that live to eat naughty children.
Biology[]
Cucuy are humanoid being with large red eyes and a great gator-like maw. They are carnivorous feasting on the flesh of human children. El Cucuy are able to magically teleport themselves, traveling through shadows, appearing in the dark places, such as underneath the beds and in closets. When they appear it as if they are emerging from shadows.
In their dens they display the ability to control the roots to straggle and ensnare intruders. And while they have superior strength to humans, Cucuy are still mortal creatures and can be slain. When dead, they bleed a clack substance and the souls they eaten from all the children they consumed are released.
Culture[]
In Latin America, the tale of the El Cucuy is well known among the older generation. According to the tales parents teach their children, a being known as El Cucuy wanders from house to house, looking for children who have misbehaved. Children who fit this category are those who do no listen to their parents. When he finds them, El Cucuy hides, waiting when the children are all alone so he can find the opportunity to steal them away in his sack and take them to his cave where he will eat them body and soul.
The Cucuy dimension
The tales are all mostly true, though save for one fact. In that it is commonly mistaken that E Cucuy is a singular entity. In truth El Cucuy are a race of monsters from another dimension that resembles a cavern containing multiple caves which serve as separate dwellings for the creatures. Each cave contains a den for a El Cucuy, where the bones of previous victims lay and with their victims tied to the walls by roots to be consumed later.
Cucuy while regarded as myths and imaginary by most humans, allowing them to operate in the shadows, a small minority of humans do believe they exist having witnessed their appearance through childhood experiences. Though these believers are usually dismissed as crazy. It serves the Cucuy well allowing them to hunt unmolested and the humans none the wiser. There is apparently a ritual to summon a Cucuy to curse the children who have wronged them.
Cucuy strictly only target naughty children, and will avoid claiming an innocent child. They also do not eat adults nor try to kidnap them. But while they have a strict policy to not harm adults, Cucuy ignore this rule, and will target and silence those who try to expose them, making their death appear as accidents.
All Cucuy have in possession of a magic sack which can be used as a portal to their den in their home dimension. The said sack can also draw an intended target into the sack where they will be taken to their den to be fatten and eaten.
