According to Melmacian survivor Gordon "ALF" Shumway, the planet Mars is inhabited not by a race, but by a small family of Cucumber People. It's not known whether there are others living on other planets or whether the entire species consists of a single small family.

According to ALF, the Cucumber People are mean. It's likely that their antagonistic attitude towards Melmacians is the cause and/or the consequence of the Melmacians celebrating a holiday called Rag on the Martians Day.
