The Crystal Basilisk is an apex predator of Tryslmaistan. A lifeform that creates and absorbs legs as it moves, even disposing of them if it cannot afford the time. The superlative speed granted by this locomotion is important for not just feeding, but also reproduction, since they must inject other lifeforms with self-replicating plasm.
Biology[]
A crystal basilisk's body consists of two aligned hexagonal prisms connected by a smaller hexagonal prism. Spines can be forced out of anywhere from the structure as an analogue to a leg.
Crystal basilisk spines contain a microbiotic "venom" which converts the mass of a victim into a new crystal basilisk. Earthly organisms are good targets for their weak skins, watery mass, rich skeletons, and absent resistance to infection. These spines can also be used as probosci when not reproducing.
The plasm that fills a crystal basilisk's body is valued as a treatment for crystal basilisk infection and potent solvent against metal and gemstones.
