Corpsers are massive spider-like creatures native to Sera. Like most of Sera's wildlife, Corpsers are often tamed by the Locust and utilised as beasts of war.
Biology[]
Corpsers are massive seemingly-insectoid creatures with a disturbing appearance somewhat reminiscent of hands. Their lower-body is long and serpentine, but with approximately a dozen legs on each side. The upper body is taken up by the head, complete with a fang-filled mouth and four eyes, and with eight pointed limbs coated in a rock-like armour plating. Two of these 'arms' are positioned on each of the Corpser's shoulders, while the remaining six surround the head. Interestingly, Corpser hatchlings and adolescents only possess four of these limbs and less than half of the adult Corpser's legs, indicating that Corpsers gradually grow additional appendages as they age.
While Corpser reproduction is an ambiguous topic, they are known to be oviporous, in that infant Corpsers are hatched from eggs, whether on their own or prompted by their mother, such as when the nest is threatened. Corpser hatchlings are relatively fragile, presumably blind and begin their life about the size of a large Dog. However, they demonstrate aggression even from an early age. As such, the Locust have, on rare occassions, fielded adolescent Corpsers on the battlefield. Although significantly weaker and adorned in less armour than adult militarised Corpsers, these adolescent Corpsers have proven effective in disrupting enemy troop positions, making them an invaluable support unit for Locust Drone squads.
History[]
The natural state of the Corpsers is largely unknown, as those trained by the Locust were in fact modified by their head scientist, Ukkon. Corpsers were commonly used by the Locust to dig new tunnels for them, expanding their territory and enabling them to ambush their enemies from beneath the ground. During Emergence Day, the Corpsers led the initial charge, tearing through the ground and opening the way for the Locust Horde to reach the surface. Throughout the Human-Locust war, Corpsers functioned as both tunnel-diggers and living battering rams. The armour applied to their legs enabled them to block most damage inflicted on them, although the main body was relatively softer and was vulnerable if their defences were bypassed. When the Hollows of Sera were flooded and the Locust Horde were effectively defeated, the Corpsers fled into the wilderness of Sera's surface and went wild, although many were retrained to serve the Savage Locust. When the Immulsion Countermeasure was activated at Azura, the Locust underwent a forced evolution into the Swarm. Whether or not the Corpsers joined them in their transformation remains unknown.
