Copter Drones are a subspecies of Cybertronian Vehicons from the planet Cybertron.

Biology

Anatomy

Copter Drones share a similar biology to other Cybertronians, except they transform into Cybertronian helicopters.

Powers and abilities

Copter Drones share many of the same abilities as other Cybertronians.

Copter Drones are armed with several heat-seeking missiles capable of penetrating 800 meters underground to reach their targets. They can also hover serenely while in robot mode for hours.

Copter Drones share many of the same weaknesses as other Cybertronians.

Culture and society

Copter Drones share a similar culture to other Cybertronian Vehicons. Much like the Aero Drones, they serve as the primary Vehicon air force. They are usually under the command of Obsidian, one of Cybertron's greatest military generals.

Notes

• Unlike other Vehicons, the Copter Drones were ever named in the Beast Machines cartoon or toyline. Behind-the-scenes of the show, the production staff simply referred to them as "Obsidian-Drones".
• The 2004 prose story "Singularity Ablyss" first coined the term "copter-drones" for the Vehicon drones resembling Obsidian, albeit in an informal and descriptive manner. During the same story, other Vehicon drone types are each formally identified using the name of their respective general. For example, the Cycle Drones are called "Thrust drones" whereas the Aero Drones are called "Jetstorm drones".
  • Years later, the "copter-drones" descriptor was officially made the formal name for this drone type when it was used as such in the Swindle's Spiel segment of the Ask Vector Prime Facebook page, and again in the Beast Wars: Uprising prose story "Derailment" (albeit rendered as "copter drones" in that story).
• The helicopter-type Vehicon troopers featured in the Transformers: Prime video game are thematically based on the Copter Drones, as they transform into helicopters.
