Conchsquids are space-dwelling organisms native to the ring system of the gas giant Ystrad. Unlike most such beings, they apparently evolved naturally.

Description[]

Anatomy & Physiology[]

A conchsquid resembles a multicolored, tentacled conch shell. Its skin is a tough and impermeable membrane that pressurizes the creature's innards, allowing its body to contain liquid in vacuum. Even so, much of its biology uses gas in place of liquid.

Diet & Metabolism[]

Conchsquids do not breathe, instead deriving energy from the passage of Ystrad's rings through the planet's magnetic flux-lines. Conchsquids gain nutrients by eating ice and rocks from the rings, as well as smaller life-forms that share its environment.

Homeworld[]

Conchsquids live in the rings of the Jovian gas giant Ystrad. Ystrad orbits the star YTS-209101-01001-2 in the constellation Sagittarius, 4,906 light-years from the Solar System.

The conchsquids' biosphere did not originally evolve in space. Instead, it probably evolved on a Europa-like moon that was destroyed by tidal forces. The few survivors of this disaster adapted to space and colonized Ystrad's rings.
