Chewbacca, known affectionately as Chewie, is a Wookiee of the Rwook subspecies from planet Kashyyyk who made a career as an interplanetary smuggler and serves as first mate and co-pilot of the Millennium Falcon along with his closest friend and crewmate, Han Solo.
Being a Wookiee, Chewbacca cannot communicate in the same languages as Humans, and instead speaks in a language that sounds like animal-like growls and roars; and may lead others to foolishly underestimate his intellect. He has superhuman strength and is very skilled with the bowcaster.
