Cherubs are semi-insectoid semi-humanoid demons with a disturbing appearance.
Biology[]
Cherubs bear a humanoid torso that disturbingly resemble a Human infant, making them one of the most Human-like demons. Their torsos are somewhat pudgy with pale skin, while their heads bear no hair, and eyes with black sclerae and white pupils. However, in place of legs, they have a fly-like abdomen, and insectoid forearms ending in sharp claws, with a grey exoskeleton over their insectoid body parts. Additionally, they bear a pair of fly-like wings on their backs, enabling them to fly, although they can also crawl. While resembling infants, they are considerably larger, about a meter tall. Their level of sapience is unknown, but they appear capable of communicating with each other through distorted noises similar to baby babble. They are among the weakest demonic races, able to be quickly killed by kinetic weapons or electromagnetic plasma streams, although their claws are still sharp enough to rip through Human bodies.
History[]
Cherubs arose in Hell at some point in time. It is unknown if they were among the demonic armies that battled The Father or the Argenta. In the 22nd century, Cherubs were among a demonic invasion force summoned to Mars by a Human cultist named Malcom Betruger, where swarms of them spread across the Union Aerospace Corporation (UAC) Mars complex, the invasion killing most of the personnel present. However, an unnamed Human marine survived and fought against the invasion, slaughtering Cherub swarms on his way to end the invasion, soon finding and killing the commanding Cyberdemon. Cherubs were seen in later missions to the ruined complex and in Hell, although after the destruction of the Maledict, the true mastermind of the invasion, no Cherubs were seen again by Humans. Any surviving Cherubs outside of Hell were destroyed with the death of the Dark Lord Davoth.
Appearances[]
- Doom 3 (2004)
Notes[]
- Ironically, cherubs, or cherubim, are commonly depicted as a type of angel. Doom's Cherubs mimic the typical depiction of a cherub as a cupid/putto-like being, but with insectoid features. They have no known connection to Maykrs.
