Chase Drones (also known as Chase-Model Drones) are a subspecies of Cybertronian Vehicons from the planet Cybertron.
Biology[]
Anatomy[]
Chase Drones share a similar biology to other Cybertronians, except they transform into Cybertronian race cars resembling heavily modified Formula One cars.
Powers and abilities[]
Chase Drones share many of the same abilities as other Cybertronians.
Chase Drones are extremely fast in vehicle mode, being able to reach a top speed of 300 miles per mega-cycle. They can also instantly teleport up to 200 yards.
Chase Drones are armed with plasma mine blasters and dual missile launchers.
Weaknesses[]
Chase Drones share many of the same weaknesses as other Cybertronians.
Culture and society[]
Chase Drones share a similar culture to other Cybertronian Vehicons. They serve as reserve reinforcements for other types of Vehicon drones.
Chase Drones are usually under the command of Mirage, a sneaky and elusive joker who likes nothing better than to play pranks on those around him, even if it is his fellow Vehicons. Unfortunately, he is also very dumb, forcing Megatron to constantly keep an eye on him.
History[]
The chase-model drones were among the earlier types of Vehicons that Megatron used in the preliminary stages of his takeover of Cybertron. At some point during this time, the Autobot Peace Marshal Devcon was critically injured and forced to transfer his spark into a chase-model drone.
Chase General Mirage was created by Megatron to bolster his ranks of light infantry in the fight against the Maximals. He was also created to breach the intelligence gap between Vehicon Generals and their drones.
Mirage was sent to investigate a transwarp anomaly heralding the arrival of Primal Prime and his crew from ancient Earth, which also drew the attention of the Rodimus and Apelinq. In the ensuing battle, Mirage and Apelinq plunged into the anomaly moments before it closed.
While Apelinq ended up on ancient Earth, Mirage was destroyed either within the anomaly or soon after their arrival. Following this, Megatron sent a light infantry force of chase-model drones to fight alongside fellow generals Spy Streak, Blastcharge, and Quake. They were also tasked with guarding an old Autobot shuttle from the Wreckers, who wished to use it to get offworld.
The majority of chase-model drones were destroyed by the Wreckers while the rest were caught in the blast that consumed the facility as the shuttle launched.

Notes[]
- The "VEHICON ALERT!" feature originally from BotCon: Beyond (currently on the BotCon Online archives) refers to Devcon's Vehicon body-type as a "chase-model drone".[1]
- Whether or not this descriptor was intended to serve as a proper designation for the Vehicon drones resembling Mirage is unknown. Regardless, it is presently their only official identifier.
- Mirage went through several pre-release names, including "Skidmark", "Burnout", and (inexplicably) "Insector".[2]
- Early design art also depicted him as a bright red car with blue markings.
- Chase General Mirage is named and modeled after the similarly named Autobot featured in Generation 1-related media whereas his personality is based on the Generation 1 Seeker Skywarp.
- Much like Skywarp, Mirage is a prankster with teleportation powers who needs constant supervision to make sure he does not do something really stupid.
- At BotCon 2001, a physical toy based on Devcon's Chase Drone form was one of several future Expanded Universe figures that attendees could vote to have produced for BotCon 2002. However, he lost the vote to Cyclonus, whose toy was redecoed from Beast Machines Ultra Class Jetstorm.
