Regeneration comes in many forms: in its most basic level it consists on the ability to heal body damage. Using that definition, humans themselves are capable of some levels of regenerating, as are practically all species known to science. In fiction, however, the term is used to refer to extremely quick healing, the ability to re-create entire organs, limbs or high amounts of tissues which may have been lost in injury; and, in its most advanced level, the ability to recreate an entire organism from a severed part. Many real life species have this ability, including sponges, sea stars and flatworms.
