Mammalian or mammalianoid species are those either belonging to or biologically resembling the animal group classis mammalia. When dealing with alien species, the characters most commonly used to define mammalianoids include an internal skeleton and jaws resembling those of Earth vertebrates; homeothermy; and the habit of taking extensive care of, and nourishing, young offspring. Fur coating or hair and external ears are also commonly present in mammalian species.
