Notable members[]
- "Dang it, Jim, I'm an astronomer, not a doctor! I mean, I am a doctor, but not that kind of doctor. I have a doctorate, but it's not the same thing. You can't help people with a doctorate. You just sit there you're useless!"
- ―Dr. Doppler
Doctor Delbert Doppler is a self-described well-known astrophysicist from the planet Montressor, and a friend of Sarah Hawkins and her son Jim. He is a slightly eccentric, absent-minded professor who is not good at handling guns.
After Jim inherited a map device from a dying pirate containing the location of the lost Treasure Planet; Doppler funded an expedition to find it aboard the spaceship RLS Legacy. During the voyage he developed a romantic affection for the ship's captain: a Felinid named Amelia. They would later marry each other and have four children.
Appearances[]
- Treasure Planet (2002)
- Treasure Planet: Battle at Procyon (2002)
Notes[]
- There was originally a scene mentioning that in their species it is the male that gives birth to the offspring; but this was deleted from the final version since the producers considered it controversial.
- Dr. Doppler is based on two characters from Stevenson's Treasure Island: Squire Trelawney and Dr. Livesey. He was likely named after physicist Christian Doppler.
