The Boerboes are an alien species that appears in the Faster Than Light Universe.

Boerboe are large sloth-like bidpeds.
History[]
The Discovery encountered the Boerboes shortly after their disappointing meeting with the Nulian Collective. During the exchange the Boerboes introduced the humans to the Inglets who were their 'pets'. While the Boerboes entertained the humans the Inglets scouted the Discovery for anything of value. They discovered the Tesseract and attempted to steal it, and nearly succeeded but the humans managed to reclaim the artifact. The Boerboes were forced to retreat when a Nulian ship intervened to drive the miscreants away from The Discovery.
A Boerboe stowawy remained behind hidden in The Discovery and requested asylum informing of his kind's enslavement under the Inglets. He plea was accepted and was brought to the U.N. Space Station in the Sol System. However it turned out to be a ruse, as the alien possessed an incendiary device hidden as a tooth. The Boerboe used it to kill himself, destroying part of the space station.
Culture[]
The Boerboes evolved on the same planet as the Inglets. However the Inglets managed to climb to the top of the food chain. They enslaved the Boerboes, cloning them for generation. Old and sick Boerboes are eventually eaten and used as food by the Inglets.
