The Blovians are a species from the planet Blovia, a purple and yellow planet, roughly half of the size of Earth.
Biology[]
Countless eons ago, when, the Blovian race had not yet evolved into its present form, they were described as thin creatures with “exoskeletons, tri-pronged tentacles, and double human stature”.
Blovians showed considerable sexual dimorphism. Females were epicene, gelatin creatures. They were a foot shorter than a young adult human, but with double the width. Their neck-less head was noticeably large, nearly half of the size of the body. Instead of legs, their rotund and translucent, but green-tinted, bodies simply continued until it met with the ground, compared to a slug, especially leaving behind a trail of slime.
They had no arms but tentacles, complete with small suckers at the end of each, that protruded from their shoulders in the expected positions. Smaller, pointed tentacles, which were a darker and more opaque shade than the rest of the body, curled all over the head like hair. Females lacked any nose or teeth, but had three eyes, the middle one being slightly higher on the face than the other two, which looked in different directions, and a tongue that was on the roof of its mouth instead of being on the bottom.
Blovians were capable of consuming organic matter. They only had to stab a tentacle into a organic food item and suck it all of nutrients which left only ash.
The species had many impressive abilities. Such as having eidetic memory. Their auditory sensors were capable of more minute hearing than human ears, allowing for a greater amount of unique noises for the complex language that Blovians gurgle. They also can hear higher and lower tones and can differentiate between two sounds that humans would perceive as being identical.
The substance that they were made of was acidic, though oxygen in the air would naturally neutralize the alien acid, an impossibility to all known acids known to man.
The species had a lethal reaction to salt. Though their bodies required some for the electrical impulses that operate the nervous system, it is a trace amount that is acquired naturally from sustenance. In large quantities though salt can cause their bodies to dissolve.
Reproduction[]
Blovians do not carry fetuses. They only needed one hour after fertilization, which the. females would expel their young as embryos in special sacs, that contain all of the needed nutrients. The young Blovians would then grow swiftly and independently as the female continued immediate, further impregnation by her male counterpart.
History[]
For eons, due to the slow speed of the rotational cycle of Blovia, the planet is mostly inhospitable. The early Blovians had to evade boiling beneath the heat of day or freezing in the cold of night by moving constantly with the ring that is the temperate zone, where the temperature is tolerable.
The species has since evolved to adjust and endure greater amounts of coldness and warmness. Though on Blovia, it is always night, as they dwell beneath the absorption plate, the moving collection of lossless solar power panels that gather energy constantly to fuel the farms and factories.
To add more attractiveness to living underground, a Bolivian scientist named Giaki invented skylights, to be place between the panels. It allows an enjoyable view, providing a maintained temperature so that the entire planet can now be kept at a tolerable heat.
Blovians first became aware of humanity from their television broadcasts. And, after the discovery, the Blovians translated some of humanity’s languages with the golden record of Earth sounds that were sent out. However it was decided humanity to being too primitive for official contact following their first space flights.
Though apparently it was due to confusion by the Blovians of seeing human astronauts landing on the lonely moon of Earth through the effort of a genie, which was actually a TV episode of I Dream of Jeannie.
Around the 17th century, Blovia experienced an especially long summer in which the water could not replenish, so many blobs were lost to dehydration. To this day, the Blovians still refer to it as being the Deathly Drought.
In 1771, a Blovian scientist named Giaki who had contributed to many advances to Blovia came to Earth to study the planet and its inhabitants. He did not interact with humans until the beginning of the 19th century. By then Giaki had learned humanity's language and also concluded humanity would be the best form of sustenance for his kind.
But in 1971 he was ordered to retreat as the Elder Families declared Earth to be protected as it was an officially a developing ecosystem. However Giaki refused to comply with the orders and remained on Earth, avoiding the patrols of the Galactic Collective.
At one point a famine on Blovia has destroyed much of the species.
Culture[]
Due to the inhospitable nature of their planet, Blovians view the concept of rain to be mythical, having never witnessed such weather phenomenon on their world.
They also have an obsession with Earth broadcasts, finding everything from mundane advertising commercials, TV shows, etc. to be fascinating.
Technology[]
Blovians have achieved space travel through using the proven theory of space manipulation.
Language[]
Blovians were a talkative species. In Blovian, each slurp and click is a sentence, so conversations are spoken with greater content and speed than with human syllables. When speaking in human tongues, Blovians find that their bodies have difficulty with providing conversation with brevity. Though in comparison to Blovian such a dialogue in the native gargling is acceptably brief. This meant whereas Blovian speech took only several seconds, the human speech required an entire minute.
Education[]
Blovian education was different from humans. They viewed humanity’s education model, hurling identical information at a group and expecting each to absorb it properly to be a poor method of instruction, as some would benefit from different explanations than others. Furthermore, they believed that the use of cliques to be detrimental to groupthink, as in sectioning off bodies as smaller collectives instead of being a cohesive whole, as the Blovians conduct themselves. They point out that individual conflicts between teammates would occur in humanity’s model as it could detract from productivity. Due to this it’s believed by the species that these issues to be the source of many human violent engagements.
Breeding[]
Blovians practiced incest, mating between family members. Spawn would seek their parents to mate, for purposes of genetic integrity. It was seen abnormal in Blovian culture for family lines to end thus it was encouraged to breed in continuation of blobs, young Blovians. This method of breeding was seen as the simplest of preserving genetic material properly. They regarded interfamilial breeding to cause the loss of stability and damage to uitac (the blob equivalent of the deoxyribonucleic acid), which often produces sterile offspring or less developed ones. Any blobs born with defects must be euthanized for the continued growth of the species.
Government[]
The Blovians were united under a governmental body called the Collective.
