The bird creatures are an unnamed species indigenous to the world of M4G-877 in the Pegasus Galaxy.
History[]
Thousands of years ago the species homeworld was visited by the recently arrived Ancients who fled the Milky Way Galaxy from a Galaxy wide plague. The Ancients attempted to establish an outpost on the planet but due to the hostility of the natives the site was eventually abandoned.
It is uncertain if the species at the time were pre-agricultural tool-users or simply dangerous animals when the Ancients visited their world. Though they were categorized simply as dangerous wildlife in the archives. Whether this was accurate or the ancestors of the creatures were far more primitive in the past is debatable. According to Dr. Daniel Jackson, he suspected that the species had already developed tools before the interlopers. And that their erroneous categorization was intentional due to the arrogance of the Ancients in their disinterest in non-humanoid life.
Since the Ancients were only specifically interested in seeding worlds with humans, because they knew humans had the potential to evolve into something like them. Putting humans on a world with another intelligent species would have meant they’d have to compete with and hence why they abandoned their outpost.
Biology[]
The species were built like ostriches, but were taller and far stockier, with a beak the size of human head and possessed wickedly sharp claws. Their wings, while not built for flight had wingtips that ended in long, bony fingers.
Culture[]
The species are primitive, possessing a rudimentary language. They appear to be hunters, making use of their natural weaponry and also tools like spears and nets.
Due to their planet having a high-oxygen atmosphere anything that burns results in going to burn fast and hot. Anything that strikes a spark is extremely likely to start a fire. The creatures use this knowledge to their advantage, starting fires to flush prey to their nets and ambush them.
