Beetoms are a pesky, arthropoidic organism indigenous to the planet Zebes. Their exoskeletal structure is powerful, and completely unharmed by ordinary beam weaponry. It takes sudden detonations to crack their shells, and thus two useful weapons are Super Missiles or Morph Ball Bombs; however, regular Missiles appear not to work as their explosions are not powerful enough, though Morph Ball Bombs work because their undersides are apparently less armored, likely due to it being dragged along the ground in most cases. Beetoms are similar in shape to grasshoppers on Earth.

They prey on equal sized organisms, causing many alternate forms such as Chozo Morph Balls to be subject to attack. When they locate a potential victim, they will swarm onto it, draining its life energy in a similar manner to a Metroid, Mochtroid, or Quadtroid. Samus encountered many of these creatures during her second mission to Zebes, which ended in the death of the Mother Brain.

As with all other species native to Zebes, it became extinct in the wild when Samus Aran finally destroyed the evil Mother Brain.
