Beetles are a species of burrowing insectoid organisms indigenous to the planet Tallon IV. They are aggressive yet communal creatures, and are known to dig out subterranean nests were a number of them may reside together. Given their methods of attack, they likely have adapted a pack mentality for hunting over other reasons. They prefer soft earth as their home as it is easier for them to dig through with their mandibles, although they are still capable of burrowing through solid rock at high speeds, and often use this to their advantage in order to surprised prey items. Either due to instinct driving them to protect their nests or because of minor Phazon poisoning they are extremely aggressive, oftentimes attacking creatures several times their own size. They communicate by grunting or squealing in a fashion vaguely similar to the pigs of the planet Earth.
Samus Aran encountered nests of these creatures in her travels across Tallon IV, in both the Tallon Overworld and the Chozo Ruins.
