The Bat-men of Jupiter are a sapient species.

Biology[]

They have sturdy bodies with membranous wing-like patagia and internal air-bladders which allow them to stay airborne in both Jovian and Venusian atmospheres. On Jupiter they are restricted to riding the winds, but on lighter planets they can use their gliding membranes as functional wings, enabling them to actually fly, even if in an awkward fashion. They have three pairs of prehensile limbs to manipulate tools.

The presence of light affects the Jovians' muscles by phototropism, forcing them to fly towards the light, even if against their wishes.

Appearances[]

  • "Green Hell", by Arthur K. Barnes (1937)
