Bantrids are an unusual race of sentient beings native to the Liavaran shepherd moon of Hibb. They spent millennia of their history in stasis, and have only recently awakened into the wider solar system.
Description[]
Anatomy[]
Bantrids are small creatures with a highly unusual body structure. Their lower half consists of an organic, spherical "wheel" which they rotate by using hundreds of thousands of cilia, allowing them to move quite rapidly for creatures of their size. Their upper bodies are thick, column-shaped torsos with small eyes and nostrils positioned roughly in the middle, and two manipulators resembling large hands with long fingers sit at the top. Notably, they have no olfactory organs, and cannot smell at all. Bantrids stand between three and four feet tall and weigh 70-100 pounds on average.
Diet[]
A bantrid's small, almost toothless mouth is only capable of eating fruits and nuts, making the aliens obligate herbivores.
Life cycle[]
Bantrids reproduce by asexually budding, producing infants with foot-orbs not yet capable of motion. Baby bantrids require constant care for the five months it takes for them to gain mobility. Bantrids reach adulthood in 8 years and live for 70-110 years.
Society[]
When the bantrids awakened from stasis, they had no understanding of the Golarion System's politics or even of why they had entered into stasis in the first place, and they did not much care. They are highly curious, and have proven themselves eager to integrate into Pact World society. They take rejection in stride and simply look for new opportunities when so treated.
Motion is paramount in bantrid culture. They use treadmills in place of chairs and live in ramped towers. Bantrids grow anxious and unsettled when not moving, and will usually pass out from terror if restrained.
Notes[]
- Bantrids first appeared in Starfinder Pact Worlds as a playable race.
