Avidae are a 'royal species' of humanoid birds.

Biology[]

Being birds, Avidae have wing-like arms and are covered in feathers except on their legs. They have three-toed feet with one toe pointing backwards. Unlike most Earth bird species, they seemingly lack talons.

There are numerous subspecies of Avidae, which resemble different species of Earth birds. The one trait shared by all subspecies is that they cannot fly, although the placement of their toes suggests that they had once been able to do so,

While their toes have no talons, Avidae do have three claws on each of their wings. These claws do not possess the manual dexterity necessary to construct and pilot spacecraft.

Strangely, Avidae have conventional mouths rather than the beaks one would expect from a bird.

Culture and Society[]

Avidae are one of several secondary royal species. They have influence over the Galaxy at large, but not on the same level as the Florians. Few Avidae have any desire to leave their planet, and those who do go offworld are typically consorts to members of other royal species.
