Antedeans (also spelled as "Antedians") are a sapient, spacefaring species from the planet Antede III.

Biology[]

They're humanoids with fish-like features, purplish-blue skin, large eyes, a pair of barbels on their chins and a dorsal fin on their heads. Their hands have three fingers. Their diet seems to consist mostly of vermicula.

Antedeans have a natural ability to enter a self-induced catatonic state, which can last for several days. During this period they remain completely motionless. When they awake from it, they have the urge to consume enormous quantities of food.

According to telepathic Betazoid Lwaxana Troi, the Antedeans' minds are extremely easy to read.

Culture and society[]

Antedeans have a natural aversion to space travel and customarily enter their state of catatonic torpor when they need to travel in starships. They carry large supplies of vermicula, which they consume vigorously as soon as they awake upon reaching the intended destination.

History[]

In 2365, the USS Enterprise-D escorted two Antedean dignitaries from Antede III to a conference on the planet Pacifica, where their race would be offered the chance to join the United Federation of Planets. However, it was discovered that the two dignitaries were actually terrorists intending to blow up the conference and prevent their world from joining.

Appearances[]

  • Star Trek: The Next Generation, s02e19, "Manhunt" (1989)
