Animatronians (alternatively known as Eukarians) are a subspecies of Cybertronians from the lush and verdant jungle planet Animatron.

Biology[]

Anatomy[]

Animatronians share a similar biology to other Cybertronians, though they generally transform into robotic animals.

Powers and abilities[]

Animatronians share many of the same abilities as other Cybertronians.

Culture and society[]

Amidst Animatron's verdant jungles and oceans, strange beasts prowl though not all of them are flesh and blood. Unlike the many other Cybertronian colonies across the galaxy, these early Cybertronian settlers left their wild world unspoiled by civilization and adapted to their harsh environment by adopting fearsome beast modes.

Only the mightiest may rule Animatron where strength and teeth are the only laws, and the insular tribes and clans who dwell here are distrustful of ancestral Cybertronians with vehicular alternate modes.

Animatronians are often divided into various tribes such as the reptilian Scale Walkers, led by Dinobot; the mammalian Fur Walkers, led by Cheetor; the aquatic Wave Walkers, led by Manta Ray; the airborne Cloud Walkers, led by Sonar; and the supernatural Fateweavers, led by Blackarachnia.

Animatronians also seem to have a monarchy type of society, as Optimus Primal is referred to as the "King of the Beast Planet", occasionally succeeding Apelinq.

In the Tyran Cluster, Animatronians are dedicated to the expansion of life throughout the universe. Through their use of the Transwarp Key, they travel to other planets and nurture developing civilizations. In the aftermath of their planet's destruction, the Animatronians have also been tasked with protecting the Transwarp Key and stopping Unicron from consuming the universe.

Technology[]

In the Tyran Cluster and Uniend Cluster, Animatronians are described as an advanced race of Cybertronians akin to the Maximals and Predacons of the Primax Cluster's "Beast Era".

Religion[]

Animatronians are associated with Onyx Prime.

History[]

Alternate history[]

During the Cybertronians' campaign with the Titan Masters, Alpha Trion searched for info on the mysterious return of the Titans and their crews. Following a trail of clues to Eukaris, Trion and Titan Master Clobber located a mysterious ancient artifact that was linked to the Titans and Titan Masters amid jungle covered buildings. Mindwipe led an assault team consisting of Astrotrain, Wolfwire, and Titan Master Apeface in an ambush to steal the artifact.

Notes[]

  • The name "Eukarian" (pronounced yoo-KARR-ian) is a reference to the eukaryotes, a group of organisms that include all multicellular life-forms.
  • Although never explicitly named in published canonical material, Hasbro designer Aaron Archer's intent was for Star Seeker leader Thundertron's home colony to be inspired by the "Jungle Planet" from Transformers: Cybertron, hence his lion alternate mode. His design was specifically meant to differentiate him from Maximals and Predacons.[1]
  • Brimstone was also listed as part of the roster of "Aligned" Star Seekers slated to appear in an early version of Transfomers: Prime's third season.[2]
    • Though it is likely that the character would have been portrayed as an Animatronian (or Eukarian) much like his Transformers: Cybertron counterpart, this would have been complicated since Thundertron was conceived as being from the same planet.
  • Within the Cyberverse cartoon, Thunderhowl has only been portrayed as a Cybertronian knight and a veteran of the Age of Expansion loyal to the Primes. However, his beast mode and connections to Onyx Prime imply that he is an Animatronian to an extent.
  • According to concept artist Eddie Del Rio, several Predacons were considered for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts including Waspinator, Spittor, and Ramhorn. However, development on them only got as far as rough sketches before ultimately being cut from the film.[3]
    • During later stages of the film's production, Rampage was slated to make a cameo as a deceased corpse glimpsed during the underground cavern sequence. Despite being cut from the film, a full 360° CGI model was created for the character.[4]
  • According to TakaraTomy designer Shogo Hasui, Skullcruncher was selected for the Rise of the Beasts toyline's Beast Battle Master assortment as an homage to the Action Master partner Gatorraider.

Planet Identity[]

  • Various creative teams and media have given different names for the Cybertronian colony associated with Onyx Prime throughout its appearances, as it was never given a name in the English version of Transformers: Cybertron, being only ever referred to as either the "Jungle Planet" or the "Beast Planet".
    • In the original Japanese version of Cybertron, known as Transformers: Galaxy Force, the planet is named Animatros. This name would return in the Beast Wars: Uprising prose story "Derailment".
    • Transformers Animated: The AllSpark Almanac II drew inspiration from the Japanese series and named its version of the planet Animatron. This name follows the trend of the English planet names ending with "-on" (ex. Velocitron, Gigantion) and is coincidentally the Japanese name for the Generation 1 Predacons.
    • In the 2005 IDW continuity and the Power of the Titan Masters promotional comic book, the planet is named Eukaris. Interestingly, the Power of the Primes toyline even describes Optimus Primal as the "King of the Beast Planet Eukaris".
    • While Eukaris seemed to be the planet's official name, it was suddenly named Biosfera as part of a map on the back of the Titans Return Titan Force 3-pack. Luckily, the War for Cybertron: Earthrise toyline would reconcile Biosfera as being the "Beast/Jungle Planet" whilst describing it an amalgamation of its portrayals in both Cybertron and the 2005 IDW continuity.
    • Complicating matters further, the hidden map fragment included with Earthrise Voyager Class Snapdragon toy spells the "Beast Planet" as Biosphera.
    • In the film Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the jungle planet is never referred to by name yet is largely regarded as the "Maximal planet". However, it is speculated that this iteration of the planet was explicitly named Eukaris in an earlier version of the film shown in test screenings.
