Ambulls are subterranean predators believed to be native to the planet Luther McIntyre IX, although this remains unconfirmed. They possess immense strength, aggression and an impressive ability to rapidly burrow through the ground.
Ambulls are hardy and long-lived social creatures, residing within underground tunnels shared between close family groups. They often remain in their tunnels during daytime, due to the immense heat of their homeworld's sun, and emerge at night to hunt and scavenge.
When faced with prey or an enemy, an Ambull will usually attempt to dig their way beneath their foe's position and erupt from the ground under them, before tearing them apart with their huge claws and razor-sharp mandibles. Often, immature Ambulls will attempt to bring the prey back to their family group as a shared meal.
Despite the immense danger posed by a single Ambull, several failed attempts to domesticate and train them have resulted in them spreading throughout the Milky Way Galaxy, establishing themselves as the apex predator of any ecosystem they find themselves in. Although they have been encountered in a variety of extremely hazardous environments, Ambulls have demonstrated surprisingly little variation throughout the species, regardless of their environment and the expected adaptations necessary. This has led some Human researchers to theorize that Ambulls may be a created species, and that they may even be resistant to the corruption of Chaos. So far, this has not yet been proven.
On Necromunda, Humans have successfully transplanted Ambull brains into excavation robots built in the Ambulls' image. These machines, known as Ambots, are designed for mining, although several criminal gangs have successfully removed the mental limiters keeping the brain's aggression in check, using the Ambots as robotic warbeasts.
