Amalgams are the result of Corpus experiments with the Sentients. While some Amalgams are simply Corpus robots enhanced with Sentient technology, others are in fact cyborgs created from splicing Sentient components with Corpus bodies.

When the Sentients returned to the Origin System, they abducted Ballas, the last of the Orokin, and cybernetically modified him with Sentient components, making him the first Amalgam. Recognising potential for such a lifeform, the Sentients seized control of the Corpus' Gas City facilities on Jupiter and forced their chief scientist, Alad V, to create more Amalgams to reinforce them. To ensure Alad's cooperation, a Sentient known as the Ropalolyst took station on Jupiter to intimidate the Corpus and keep them on task.
While many Amalgams are seen fighting alongside the Corpus, others are under the direct control of the Sentients and will attack their Corpus creators on sight.
