The Aliens of David Wiesner's 2013 book Mr. Wuffles! are a Humanoid people of small size (roughly 1 cm in height) who find themselves terrorized by a household cat who plays with their saucer causing a vital system to be damaged. They daringly leave their ship in search of material to repair their vessel and discover a society of insects (purple ants and common ladybugs) behind the walls of the house they are in. The ants and the aliens communicate with one another and the ants are shown to have a pictographic history of their various encounters with the cat. The two cultures exchange objects with one another and work together to outsmart the cat. With the Ant's help the Aliens leave the planet and the Ants draw a new mural depicting their encounter with the Aliens, and put on display the objects left behind by the visitors.
Language[edit | edit source]
According to David Wiesner the Alien's written language is slightly mathematical in basis. With compound words having a denominator and numerator.
Notes[edit | edit source]
- David Wiesner had drawn a cover for Cricket Magazine that features similar aliens to those in this story though aesthetic differences in saucer design, flag design, and clothing; along with those aliens having pure white eyes, various cranial structures, and being about an inch tall would indicate that they are a different species then those in this story.
